Hi everyone,

Do drop by for a visit if you're free, especially if you are interested in research projects like this below:

Burble Bubbles , part of Archifest 2010, is a new media installation of public display for sharing of thoughts spanning physical and virtual space, whether you are physically in or out of Singapore. It collects the hidden thoughts of passers-by and virtual users allowing everyone to see the collective aspirations for Singapore’s built environment. Contribute and respond to messages. See the threaded messages being dynamically displayed. Send a digital message in front of the installation or participate via 3D virtual space (Second Life) and 2D social media (Twitter @BurbleBubbles). Share your wishes for a happy city --- come down to NUS School of Design & Environment Foyer in National University of Singapore or visit the virtual installation at National University of Singapore in Second Life (http://slurl.com/secondlife/NUS/198/118/31) to send or read your messages.

Exhibition duration 21 Oct 2010 to 2 Nov 2010. Venue: NUS SDE3, Level 2, School of Design & Environment Foyer, National University of Singapore. 9am to 6pm.

This installation is created by the Ambient Intelligence Lab of Interactive and Digital Media Institute, and Department of Architecture of the National University of Singapore and supported by NUS Computer Centre. Team members are Dr Tan Beng Kiang, Yeom Jungho, Tal Goldenberg, Mehul Prof Motani, John Yap and Prof Lawrence Wong.

Regards
John

Hi Ines

Just to say that you may be able to find past discussions on this topic by searching the list archive. There's a link under A.2 on the informal list FAQ at http://bit.ly/listfaq

Best wishes

Peter

I just heard that Never Never Land sim is gone :-( that was one of the
most beautiful, creative sims I have seen in many years. Let's hope
someone picks up the baton for another chance at being wow'd.

I want a photo of a learning space in SL with fall foliage theme to use
in a section of my ePortfolio, for masters in educational technology. My
final project is based on universal design considerations in virtual
learning spaces, so a classroom with landscaping features is more
relevant than non-educational sims.

Again, thanks to all who responded with suggestions!

I was going to say that some of the people selling plants have amazing
forest settings. Must it be an official "learning" envirionment?

Last night, I downloaded Norton Utilities 2011, and ever since then I cannot connect to SL. I've tried 3 versions of viewers, uninstalled and reinstalled. I contacted Norton and had them uninstall all Norton components, but the problem persists. SL is saying that it's not their problem as it occurs before I hit the Log In button- it just tells me that there's no Internet connection. It says the same thing when I tried to connect to Norton Support, but then it checks the connection, says it's ok, and says it's a corrupt host file, which Norton attempts to fix but cannot. The Norton technician can't find anything. It connects normally with Internet Explorer (the only other browser I use).

I'm thinking it has to be some file that both Norton and the SL browsers use very early on in connecting with the Internet, but does anyone have any ideas about how to fix it?

Have you tried rolling back to a restore point before the Norton
installation? That should help.

Invitation to a 1 hour workshop,
*The League of Worlds Bring Your Own Grid 1*

(and perhaps connect your OpenSim grid to the League of Worlds)

*First a little history*
The League of Virtual Worlds was founded in 2004 to discuss the use of
simulations and virtual worlds in education. It met annually each
October for 5 years, until its original purpose was overtaken by time.
We began because virtuality was not on the agenda of any conferences
that we knew about. By 2009 this was no longer true. It had become a
mainstream staple at educational conferences, for which we were glad.

*The new direction for the League of Worlds*
Now however we can see a new and timely challenge: to establish LoW as a
community of inquiry that seeks to explore simulation, virtuality and
pedagogy within the context of OpenSim, by federating our OpenSim worlds
into an actual League of Worlds, and by using that federation as a
virtual laboratory for our ongoing inquiries across a diverse range of
fields. In so doing we will find partners, contexts, content and
resource-sharing for these endeavours.

*The event*
We are planning to hold *Bring Your Own Grid 1*, a League of Worlds
one-hour in-world gathering on Wednesday, October 27 at 10.30 SL time,
when we will explain what we mean in more detail, and invite others who
share our vision to join us. If you wish to join, or to find out more,
you are invited to attend.

Confirmed attendees, so far, include:
     * Scott Diener (Auckland University, New Zealand) of the New
Zealand Virtual Worlds Grid
     * John "Pathfinder" Lester (as himself), owns an OpenSim region on
jokaydiaGrid
     * Steve Bronack (Clemson University, South Carolina) of the
Carolinas Virtual Worlds Consortium
     * Owen Kelly (Arcada University, Helsinki) (new OpenSim grid under
construction)
     * Lindy McKeown (University of Southern Queensland) aka Decka Mah
in Second Life (new OpenSim grid under construction)

*Location*
The gathering will be held on the island Terra Incognita in Second Life
at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Terra%20incognita/157/107/33/

Look for the signs at the landing point to the meeting in Spotter Square.

Don't forget, its at Wednesday, October 27 at 10.30 SL time. Check your
time at http://tinyurl.com/23zb8fw
