My feeling is that this is not the future of Second Life ... but more a
development of such things as IMAX and planetarium technology with 3d
modelling add-ons.  This to me is more like theatre/classroom in the
round than immersive technology like MUVEs
My feeling, based somewhat on Kurzweil, is that SL and other immersive
technologies will move to direct brain linkages (you think and you
experience, see or do) via helmet connectors (the basics have already
been developed, see Honda etc) and haptic technology (ask Stroker
Serpentine but I think this will be superceded), direct cannula
brain-to-computer or cloud linkage.
In fact, within three to five years, given the exponential progress of
technology, I believe   anyone  immersed in SL and other MUVEs or their
descendant technologies will be unable to distinguish between the
virtual world and the real world unless they uncouple.
The result will be that classrooms/conference rooms of this nature will
be seen as museum pieces and will not be needed - it will all be
directly in your mind - and neither will bricks and mortar academic
*laughing* Just top of the head thoughts!!! But that is what we are
moving towards.
